The Direct Access scheme was introduced to allow a person over the age of 21 years old to avoid the two year/25 kW restriction. The test must be taken and passed on a motorcycle of at least 35 kW (46.6 bhp). This is norrmally done on a 500cc machine. Most training schools use Suzuki GS500's, Honda CB 500's or Kawasaki ER-5's. We also have Honda CB-1 400cc machines which have a lower seat height than the 500's if required.

The course starts on a 125cc machine for the CBT. The instructor reserves the right to allow you to progress on to a larger machine on day-2, which allows you to have more time on a larger machine to practice for your test. Some training school keep you on a 125cc machine longer so they can take out a training ratio of 4:1.

Our maximum on road training ratio at any time is 2:1.

Up on successfully completing the practical test you may ride any size and power machine.
