Anyone wishing to ride a motorcycle or moped on the public roads must complete a CBT and be issued with a DL196. The CBT is not a test, it is an on going training and assessment day which is in 5 elements. All elements must be completed in order and to a satisfactory standard before a DL196 can be issued.
Element A: Introduction and advice on helemts and clothing
Element B: Practical on site training.
Element C: Practical on site riding.
Element D: Practical on road training.
Element E: Practical on road riding. (Legally must be a min of 2hrs)
The DL196 is valid for a period of 2 years. If you do not complete a full motorcycle practical test during this period another CBT must be completed to allow you to continue riding on a provisional licence.
At 16 years old you may ride a moped, which is a machine of no greater than 50cc with a maximum speed of 31mph.
From 17 years old you may ride a motorcycle of up to 125 cc with a maximum power of 14.6bhp.
The course begins at 8.30am and aims to finish at approximately 5pm. Most persons complete the CBT to a satisfactory standard within one day. The cbt is not a gaurenteed pass and further training may be required.
